A month for Thanks

With this being the month of Thanksgiving we were discussing at the meeting how thankful we are to Mark for allowing us to meet at Friendswood Christian Church all these years.

There will be a Christmas Party in December during the meeting.  The club will provide the drinks and a meat and cheese platter.  And I have it on good authority that Santa will be paying a short visit.

There were several things going on this month.  Byron was having a hard time signing on to the internet on his laptop.  Come to find out, his NUMLOCK was on and whenever he was trying to put in his password numbers kept coming up instead of the letters.  Jane said she was having trouble with her computer and it wouldn't update her programs but when she turned on her laptop it started working for her.  I think her computer knew Mark wasn't here to help so it decided to work.

Having a Ghoulish Month

Today was a cool day outdoors but we were toasty inside.

Kris brought in several items that he needs to find a power cord for.  He has a sewing machine and a small printer that needs cords.

There was a lot of interesting conversations going on throughout the room...everything from sewing machines and television stations to printers and using small tv's for monitors.  Mark showed how to get telephone service for free to anywhere in the US, you only have to pay $1 a month for 911 service.

Chilly September

The  day started out chilly for our annual picnic so we moved it indoors.  There was a nice turn out of people.  We cooked burgers and Brats on the grill and everyone brought in a great assortment of side dishes with only a couple of duplicate dishes.

We had a lot of things going on with people playing games and surfing the web and just checking things out.  Of course there was a lot of eating going on too.

The president had a short meeting on what people might be interested in for demos or something they might like to see or learn about.

August

Today was a very nice day and we had a nice turn out for the meeting. Fran and Byron couldn't make it because they are touring Illinois.  Apparently the southern half of the state is having a lot of rain.  Fran said they have had rain every day since they left on Tuesday.  We haven't had any here.

Mark worked on Gary's Laptop and explained to Diana how to get in to the Wireless Network at home. Dale double checked a program he saved on Linux to make sure it would work on Windows.  It did.

John had a hard time logging in due to a password problem.  We had to check on-line to see if there was a way to do it without a password disk.

Rainy July

Today was a very rainy day but we had a nice meeting.  The food was good with the usual donuts and coffee and a veggie tray along with a few different salads that Jim and Ruby brought.

Mark had a busy time today.  Frank was having problems with others being able to read some of the things he sends them.  Come to find out when he is saving his file, it is not in a format the other people can read.  He also had Mark help him install  a couple of programs on to his computer.  Mark took apart Kris's monitor and they couldn't find anything wrong but it started to work after they put it back together. Byron had a problem with his recovery screen not letting him do anything on his laptop and Mark figured out what was needed to get his back working.

Gary installed several games on to his Windows 8 laptop.  They seemed to install fine, even though they were games for earlier Windows Operating Systems.

June Bugs

We didn't have any June bugs, but we did have a couple of flies.  It was a nice day outside and we had a nice time inside.

Mark pulled apart Gary's desk top and pulled the power supply unit out.  It showed that a couple of the compressors had overheated and were black.  Gary went out and picked up a new one and Mark put it in for him.  Now he has to put in a different CD drive and his computer will be back to working good.

Kris was talking about some of the things he picked up at some garage sales he went to and some of the things you need to watch out for when you get things from them.

Jane installed a virus program to her laptop and played a couple games of Mahjong.

May Flowers

April Showers may bring May Flowers but today it brought some very nice weather.

We had nominations and elections today.  For President, Gary was re-elected.  For vice-President, Dale and for treasurer, Diana.

Mark helped Fran with her Direct X and he helped Frank with a few things on his Computer.  There was several conversations going throughout the room.

April Showers

There were no April Showers today and the sun was shining brightly.  We had a great day for a computer meeting and we had a nice turnout.

Jane was telling us about Ancestry dot com.  They can take a dna sample of saliva and give you where your ancestors were from.  Her ancestors are 7% from Germany and 75% English Plus several from various areas in the Middle East.

There was a discussion on the CEO of Firefox stepping down and why.  Mark helped Frank with his desk top he recently purchased.  There was a short meeting with Gary announcing that we will be having the elections next month and we need someone to be willing to be the vice president.

Shoot the Ground Hog

Well, March came in like a lion so lets hope it goes out like a lamb.  Phil saw his shadow and this time it seems he is right and we are going to have another six weeks of winter.

Today's club meeting was very good.  We had a terrific turn out with a lot of members and some new faces.  Thank you Kim for joining.

There was a short business meeting.  Gary announced that we are going to have nominations in April and the Elections are in May.  We are going to need someone to step up and take the place of Vice-President with the passing of our current vice-president, Don Longtin. He also announced that we need people to get caught up on their dues, as we use that for the food we have for the meetings, picnics, and Christmas parties.

Mark helped several people with their computers.  He installed more memory into Byron's computer.  Diana helped Fran open some pictures in her e-mail.

Happy Valentines Month

February is sweethearts month with Valentines Day but the weather today was anything but sweet.  Even though it was cold and snowing outside we had a nice turnout  for our meeting.

Jane had a problem getting on line and Diana couldn't figure out how to get there but Mark sat down and had her up and running in just a couple of minutes.  Byron had a problem getting his laptop to start up but at the club it started with no problem.  Dale brought a friend with him.  Thank you Kim for visiting our group.

Mark got the clubs desk-top out and had it up and running.  We haven't had it out in awhile. Fran and Jane each had Mahjong playing on their laptops. Diana was told she is not to get sick anymore because it took 3 people 2 hours to post the Blog last month.

January's Party Meeting

Present were Ruby, Jim, Kelly, Mark, Gary, Paul, Fran & Byron, Dale, Chris & Melody. Diana is not feeling well so she couldn't make it. Several members have been under the weather.  Good time seemed to be with all of us. For our Pot Luck we had good food of Chicken & Noodles, Meat & Cheese Tray, Veggies tray, Brownies, Berry dessert, Sweet potatoes, Mint candy and several different drinks.

The meeting had Ruby & Jim helping Kelly understand facebook. Several people informed Kelly that a mouse would be helpful.  Mark helped Paul with his computer. Byron bought a computer off of Paul. He then enjoyed playing games on it.  Mark also helped Jim out with installing a card reader.

Chris passed out a pen out to everyone and talked about a CD called "I Am A Pole." It is a fun children CD about poles.  Gary brought several items to swap out if it is helpful to anyone. He brought some speakers and a CD writer. They were claimed.

To all: Everyone please get to feeling better, be careful in this cold weather and be safe. Hope to see you next month.
