December 2010 Workshop - Christmas Party

Today"s meeting was to Eat, Drink Soda and talk Computers.  Today we had several Laptops open.  Kelly learned how to send pictures through the e-mail. Don helped Diana refresh her memory on how to grab several files at a time. Guy was inquiring on software for classroom use. And we had a really good time.

Kris was really enjoying the Hot Wings Don brought. He is our "lean, mean, eating machine." There was plenty of food and Drinks. Thank you to everyone that attended and brought in the goodies.

At least they're off the streets for a while

We had a visit from Santa and everyone had their pictures taken with him including a group Picture.

For January's Workshop the Johnson's will do a demo on the HP Photosmart H8646 Printer.  It is a printer that print 4X6's and 5X7's of pics you take with your Cameras.  It has borders and you can even write on the pics, and edit them on the touch screen.  It even comes with it's own carrying case.

November 2010 Meeting

Kris gave a demo on the PICO OPTOMA pocket Projector. It is extremely compact and you can use it as an extension for your computer as an external Monitor.  If you want you can project it on the wall or ceiling and watch your video while laying in bed without straining your neck.

We had donuts, a veggie tray and pumpkin oatmeal bars along with coffee and juice.

Gary reminded everyone that the December meeting is our Christmas Party and Pot Luck. The club will be supplying a meat & Cheese tray and some soda.  We also have it on good authority that Santa will be making an appearance.

October Workshop

At today's meeting we were working on our website to make it more people-friendly. It can be easily updated and they can comment on what is on the site. Guy showed interest in our new site software to try out for his new business site.

Kris gave a demo on refilling the toner cartridge for a Laser Printer and the difference between a Laser Printer and an Ink Jet Printer.

There were people discussing Frostwire for Linux, playing word games, and installing Ubuntu on a Laptop sharing space with Windows.

We welcome any comments.

First Post on Blogger...

Having put together a rudimentary club blog on WordPress.com, I thought it only right to see what Google's Blogger.com site might have, as our club's main email address is a gmail offering.  I'm not yet sure what benefits there are to keeping all of our clubs web services in one basket, so this trial should prove educational.

President Johnson (no relation) overseeing all...
I've chosen a picture from a 2007 meeting to see how easy it was to manipulate and place.  You can apparently choose between 4 different size options (Small, Medium, Large, and Original Size) and three different placement options (Left, Center, and Right).  There is also an option to add a caption, which I've utilized.  Unlike WordPress, which adds a colored border around the picture when adding a caption, this template of Blogger keeps a clean border around the picture with the caption underneath.

The picture I've chosen was from our Picasa.com account (another Google product), but, as with WordPress, we have the option of uploading a picture from our own computer.  Unlike WordPress, I must press the "Enter" key twice to get the nice double-spaced paragraph look.  Not a problem, just a difference in the editing environments of the two sites.  Otherwise both have formatting bars above the editor window to change font attributes like this as well as adding pics, flics, and even add quotations in this manner:
You haven't stopped talking since I came here! You must have been vaccinated with a phonograph needle!  :Groucho Marx
A single punch of the "Enter" key gets you back out of the quote.  This also looks to be a good possibility for the club.
